One Piece has A LOT of characters as I have mentioned over and over here on TBH Anime. Today, I’ll focus on the best One Piece female characters because I think they deserve some spotlight over the big boys. Oda isn’t the best at making female characters, but there are still many good ones, so let’s begin at number 20.
20. Chimney
Chimney doesn’t do a lot during her time at Water 7 and Enies Lobby, but she and her little companion, Gombe, were ALWAYS hilarious whenever on screen. That big goofy grin on Chimney’s face is ingrained in my head. A little fact for you all out there, Chimney is actually a one-quarter mermaid which makes sense if you stop and think about it. On top of that, she saved Luffy twice by spotting him being stuck between the buildings in Water 7 and then fishing him out of the water in Enies Lobby. Chimney is a lowkey GOAT.
19. Big Mom
I’m not a big fan of villains in any show because morally, I just don’t agree with the actions they choose. However, I have to give credit where credit is due and put her on the list, even if it is at 19. She has a more complex background compared to most characters on this list, but I never felt like Big Mom was THAT amazing of a character. I felt she was handled incredibly badly whenever encountering the Straw Hats, and I felt underwhelmed with her overall arc during Wano. Unfortunately, it always felt like something was missing from her.
18. Rebecca
It’s been a while since I have seen the events on Dressrosa, so my memories of Rebecca might be a bit off. Compared to the other princesses, I felt as though she was the weakest character of them all. Nothing, in particular, stands out to me. I feel bad to place her so low because she does have an interesting backstory with Kyros, but I just never was super excited to see her on screen. She never accomplishes anything in the whole arc of Dressrosa.
17. Kalifa
I think Kalifa is probably my favorite female antagonist in the whole show. She is pretty calculating and cold and puts up a very good fight against Nami. Honestly, Kalifa should have probably won that but Nami has a plot armor advantage. She doesn’t really do much in the show, but i just like her personality over some other characters.
16. Camie
Camie is pretty hilarious. Her reaction to literally anything is absolutely ridiculous, and I love it. Honestly, she fits the Straw Hat crew much better than Carrot and Rebecca. She just can’t fight. She honestly doesn’t really do much other than just be pretty funny. Camie is just a top-level friend for the Straw Hats. Overall, she’s just dope.
15. Pudding
When Pudding is first introduced, we all thought she was going to be pretty cool. Until we find out she isn’t. We quickly find out her evil side. It makes sense considering who her mom is. However, she flips to the side of the Straw Hats after falling in love with Sanji. Gaining newfound confidence, she decides to help Sanji and the others escape from Whole Cake Island which made me a little sad to see her and Sanji separate.
14. Dr. Kureha
I really like Kureha’s personality. She literally does not care to show her true self to anyone, and I find that pretty badass. Additionally, she saves Nami’s life by curing her disease during the events on Drum Island. On top of that, she adopts Chopper after Dr. Hiriluk passes. She may have a tough outside appearance, but we know she has a big heart deep down. I have a feeling there’s WAY more to her character than we know, and I think we’ll see more of her in the final saga of One Piece.
13. Kokoro
I don’t know what it is about Kokoro, but she is pretty darn cool. She is the most carefree character in the entire show besides maybe Kizaru. For some reason, she just drops information during Water 7 like nothing. Like why would she have all this knowledge? Then later she saves the Straw Hats from drowning because she’s also a mermaid. She kept hitting me with surprises, and I was all for it.
12. Tama
Tama brought her A game in Wano. First, she saves Luffy and feeds her the rest of her food. Then, she used her relationship with the amnesic Big Mom to save Luffy from Udon. Finally, she used her Devil Fruit powers to get all the gifters on the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai alliance. She single-handedly gained hundreds of supporters from the gifters because of the Kibi-Kibi no mi. Overall, she’s a very brave girl who gives her all for her friends.
11. Koala
I really hope Koala gets more time in One Piece. Her first introduction during Fisher Tiger’s backstory was an interesting one. I like her interactions with Sabo, but I feel like there is more to her story that is left unpacked. We don’t know much between Fisher Tiger’s flashback and post-time skip, and I want to see more.
10. Carrot
I never found Carrot to be a character that I really enjoyed. I know a lot of fans probably have her much higher than where I am placing her, but she never stuck out to me. Still, her time with the Straw Hats gave me enough time to analyze her character. My favorite moment of hers has to be when she goes into Sulong form and completely destroys the Big Mom Pirates. I think she’s just missing depth to her character because she just feels too much of a side character at this point.
9. Makino
I feel like Makino is underrated. I may be wrong, but she is just a straight-up homie. All of her interactions with Luffy, Ace, and Sabo were so wholesome, and I would be super upset if anything bad ever happens to her. Her care for practically everyone goes above even Chopper’s pretty much. She’s definitely a GOATed character.
8. Shirahoshi
I previously thought that Shirahoshi kind of sucked, but my perspective on her has changed a bit. Yes, she cries a lot, but she has been in the same room for SO long. That has to damage a person’s psyche no matter who you are. Even after being in there for so long, she still goes out and tries her best to stop Hody and Vanderdecken. AND, SHE IS POSEIDON. Shirahoshi is going to be a pivotal character in the Final Saga for sure.
7. Bonney
Bonney has come a long way especially with all of her development finally happening in Egghead Island. Her being the daughter of Kuma is something fans have been speculating about, and it’s great to finally see what happened between the two. She is definitely one of the best One Piece female characters of all time.
6. Reiju
Reiju is by far the best female character One Piece has had in the last 500 chapters. Her introduction was really cool by having her save Luffy from being poisoned to death. We later learn she is Sanji’s sister and the only sibling that actually cared about Sanji. Sadly, her story is quite tragic considering she doesn’t even want to be alive. She is a very complex and compelling character, and I hope to see her more later in the series.
5. Dadan
Who the hell can not like Dadan? She is the mom of One Piece. Her time with Luffy, Ace, and Saba was so wholesome. She never wanted to take care of them, but deep down she really grew attached to these brats. That’s why it was so devastating to see her reaction to Ace’s death, and Garp definitely deserved those punches. He may be hurting too, but I felt as though Dadan took it much harder. Dadan is MOAT (Mom-est of all time).
4. Vivi
Vivi is one of the first female characters that Oda decides to make an antagonist turn protagonist. From my recollection, he really only does it for female characters. Still, Vivi is a really awesome character, and she is the only Straw Hat to not be with the crew. She turned her entire character around so quickly, and she has become one of the most beloved in all of One Piece. Her dedication to the citizens of Alabasta is very admirable. I am so upset she and Karoo couldn’t stay on the Going Merry.
3. Boa Hancock
Hancock was out for blood when she first saw Luffy. Understandably so. Now, she is the most badass female character in the entire show. Her strength is probably up there as one of the strongest female characters of all time. Also, her dedication to Luffy is on another level. She will literally do anything for the man which is part admirable part crazy. Hancock is definitely my pick for the best One Piece female character.
2. Nico Robin
Thinking about the top 4 female characters is kind of tough. EVERY SINGLE ONE has a sort of evil side to them and then later they turn good. I placed Robin at 2 simply because she joined the Straw Hats because she had nowhere else to go. Deep down, she only joined to use them like she used the other crews she tagged along with. However, she redeemed herself incredibly over time. Now, she is one of the greatest characters in the show and is respected by many.
1. Nami Is the Best One Piece Female Character
Oda with a QUADRUPLE back-to-back-to-back bad girl turned good. Again, Nami was written to have this sly side of her. She literally steals the Going Merry making herself some sort of villain. However, learning why she did what she did makes it quite wholesome and tragic. She didn’t want to get her friends involved in her problems. Now, I may not like her personality the most, but she does a lot in the show. She is basically like the second main character of the show because she influences the story in many different points. For that alone, she has to be top 5.
